rah rah sis boom bah
zoe did a cheerleading camp last week and then performed at the high school football game on friday. it was so fun to watch her. they did two cheers and a mini dance. and she was, of course, the cutest one out there. when she was done doing her little cheerleader business, she came and sat with us in the stands. while she was eating a funnel cake, i asked her if she had fun. with powdered sugar on her nose, she told me, "i loved it. i don't know why, but i loved it." that just seems like zoe to me. no reason, just happy and having fun. she is still such a little girl, but is growing up all too fast. too fast for me, not for her. she often asks when she will drive, get a cell phone, go to college. she is always quick to reassure us that she will live next door and/or visit everyday. and when she is at school i miss her. and i tell myself that sometimes she misses me too.

houston...we have a crawler
max has been mobile for about a month now. but in a weird sort of tip toe/army crawl kind of way. he has since mastered the hands and knees crawl that most of us are accustomed to. marbles, legos and pennies have all become the enemy. although he likes the adventure of it all, he would still rather be held. and he makes that known by a constant complaint with each step...or crawl. ehhhhhhhnnn. (kind of like in dumb and dumber, "hey, do you guys want to hear the most annoying sound ever?") until he finds something new that catches his eye and he tries to find the best way to fit it into his mouth. but since he can't sit up yet, every time he finds something to chew on, he rolls on his side and balances there like a little pin up girl...or boy. it's all very entertaining. but maybe we need to get out more.
the cockroach
the monkeys have been passing around some horrible fever disease the past couple of weeks. some of them also included puking, just to spice things up. poor little riley grace has really only been sick once before, so she didn't know what the heck was going on. she would be her sweet little adorable laughing self, then crying her little guts out, then crash on the couch. during one of these episodes she started throwing up. like any normal parent, my first instinct was to scoop up the poor little thing and hold her over the toilet so she could be sick with some dignity. but then i remembered the disgusting texas cockroach hanging out in the bathroom. i don't usually mind bugs, but this little fellow was huge, causing me to postpone my shower and now debate if i could bare to be in the same room with him. john paul's pleas of "Do something!" brought me back from my mental battle. but i no longer had to figure out where to take my poor little baby. she was finished throwing up. on the couch, the rug and the hardwood floor. so we spent our night washing slipcovers, scrubbing the rug and mopping the floor. but i think it was worth it, just so i didn't have to see little mr. disgusto. sorry, birdie.
